About Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple New Delhi
The conception and structural creation of the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple are rooted in the vision of Yogiji Maharaj (the spiritual leader of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha in the mid-20th century). However, the massive construction was structurally directed, expanded, and completed by his successor, Pramukh Swami Maharaj. The land on the Yamuna flats was acquired in the late 1990s, and the monumental foundation stone was formally laid in 2001. Over 11,000 highly skilled traditional artisans, stone carvers, and thousands of dedicated volunteers worked round-the-clock to construct this monumental wonder in a record time of just five years. Built strictly without steel or concrete support to ensure architectural longevity spanning thousands of years, the entire complex was grandly inaugurated on November 6, 2005, in the presence of India's top national leaders and scientists, instantly becoming a crown jewel of global Hindu heritage architecture.
