While performing Aarti, a specific procedure is prescribed for rotating the lamp in front of different parts of the deity's body. According to scriptures, Aarti should follow a defined sequence:

In front of the Feet: 4 times
In front of the Navel: 2 times
In front of the Face: 1 time
In front of the Entire Body: 7 times

Thus, while performing Aarti, one begins at the Lord's feet and gradually moves upward to the navel, face, and then the entire body.

The scripture states:

Aadau Chatuh Paadatale Cha Vishno-
Dwau Naabhideshe Mukhabimba Ekam।
Sarveshu Chaangeshu Cha Saptavaaraa-
Naaraatrikan Bhaktajanastu Kuryaat॥

Meaning: A devotee should rotate the Aarti lamp four times near the feet of Lord Vishnu, twice at the navel, once in front of the face, and seven times before all the limbs of the Lord.

Therefore, the sequence of rotating Aarti is prescribed as 4–2–1–7. Following this method, the devotee reverently worships the Divine from feet to the entire form.
