About Shri Yamuna Ji Ki Aarti
The Aarti "Om Jai Yamuna Mata" is a heartfelt devotional prayer honoring Goddess Yamuna, who holds a deeply sacred place in Vedic tradition and Pushtimarg devotion. As the daughter of Lord Surya (Sun God) and the sister of Yamraj (the God of Death), Goddess Yamuna—also fondly known as Kalindi—is revered as the giver of all happiness and the ultimate liberator of human souls. The hymn extols the deep, boundless stream of Her holy water, declaring that whoever surrenders at Her lotus feet receives complete liberation (Nistara) from worldly suffering.
A unique spiritual blessing associated with Yamuna Ji is Her relation with Yamraj. The hymn mentions that those who bathe early in the morning in Her sacred waters and meditate upon Her never suffer the fear or torments of death (Yam Ki Traas). In Kali Yuga, Her divine glory remains steadfast and unwavering, as celebrated across all four Vedas. The verses also highlight Her intimate connection with Lord Krishna, who incarnated on Her banks, played His divine Lilas, drank Her pristine waters, and eventually slayed the tyrant king Kamsa.
Addressing Goddess Yamuna as the dispeller of fear and bestower of auspiciousness, the hymn describes Her as the gentle bridge (Vaitarani) guiding souls through life's troubles. Daily singing of this aarti cleanses karmic sins, brings emotional calmness, and connects the practitioner directly with the sweet grace of Sri Radha-Krishna.
