Why should Aarti be performed?

Aarti should be performed to express one's reverence, devotion, and gratitude towards God. When a devotee offers a lamp before God at the end of worship, they hold the feeling that all the light, strength, and happiness in their life are due to God's grace.
Offering the flame of the lamp to God during Aarti also symbolizes moving away from the darkness in our lives toward the divine light. Singing praises and offering prayers during Aarti helps the devotee's mind focus more deeply on worship and strengthens their feelings of faith and devotion.
Furthermore, scriptures associate Aarti with the completion of worship. According to the Skanda Purana:
Mantraheenam Kriyaaheenam Yat Kritam Poojanam Hareh।
Sarva Sampoornatameti Krite Neeraajane Shive॥
Meaning: Even if worship is performed with deficiencies in mantras or rituals, performing Neerajana, that is Aarti, brings complete perfection to it.
