Question

How many Vedas are there, what are their names, and who is their author?

Answer

There are mainly 4 Vedas in Hinduism. Their names are — Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, and Atharvaveda.

According to Hindu tradition, the Vedas are Apaurusheya, meaning they are not considered to be authored by any human being. The Vedic knowledge was received by ancient sages as shruti (what is heard) and passed down through the Guru-Shishya tradition.

Maharishi Ved Vyasa is not considered the author of the Vedas, but rather he organized and divided the Vedas into four parts. Therefore, no single human is considered the author of all four Vedas.
