Santoshi Mata fast should be observed every Friday with faith and discipline. On the day of the fast, one should remain on a fast and narrate or listen to the story of Santoshi Mata. For worship, the fast should be observed taking one and a quarter rupees worth of jaggery and roasted chickpeas (gud-chana). After beginning the fast, it should not be skipped on any Friday; rather, it should be observed continuously and regularly every Friday. If no listener is available to hear the story, one should light a ghee lamp, place a vessel filled with water in front of it, and narrate the story of Santoshi Mata. In this manner, one should continue observing the fast with devotion and discipline. After one's wish is fulfilled, the Udyapan (conclusion ritual) of the fast should be performed according to the prescribed method.
