While narrating or listening to the story of Santoshi Mata, one should hold jaggery and roasted chickpeas in hand. During the story, all devotees should chant "Santoshi Mata ki Jai! Santoshi Mata ki Jai!" at intervals to hail the Mother. After the story is completed, the jaggery and roasted chickpeas held in hand should be fed to a holy cow (Gau Mata). In this manner, one should listen to the story of Santoshi Mata with devotion and faith.
