About Shri Parshwanath Chalisa
Shri Parshvanath Chalisa is a sacred and highly auspicious devotional hymn dedicated to Lord Parshvanath, the 23rd Jain Tirthankara. This powerful Chalisa is considered a remover of obstacles and a source of protection in times of crisis. It describes the divine life of Lord Parshvanath, born in the royal lineage of King Ashvasena and Queen Vama in the city of Kashi. The Chalisa beautifully portrays the compassion of Lord Parshvanath, who saved a serpent couple suffering in the sacrificial fire of the ascetic Kamath by chanting the Navkar Mantra, and transformed them into the divine beings Dharanendra and Padmavati, the lords of the netherworld. It also narrates the severe spiritual trials (upasargas) caused by Kamath and the miraculous protection of Lord Parshvanath, when Dharanendra created a protective serpent hood over the Lord’s head. The Chalisa further mentions the sacred Atishaya Kshetra Ahichhatra (Ramnagar, near Aonla tehsil, Bareilly), a highly revered Jain pilgrimage site known for its miracles and historical significance. It is believed that reciting this Chalisa with devotion helps completely destroy mental distress, diseases, and poverty, and brings peace, prosperity, and liberation through the divine grace of Lord Parshvanath.
